Withering devils are soul harvesters of the Nine Hells who tempt, trick and physically drain the will of others. By inducing apathy and depression, they destroy individuals, render groups dysfunctional, and bring about famine, plague and strife.[1]

Description[]

Withering devils naturally appear as hideous humanoids, but they are extraordinarily adept at disguising themselves, sometimes with magic but also with nothing but a heavy cloak and dark room.[1]

Personality[]

Withering devils are skilled in the art of deception and have great insight into the motives of others.[1]

Abilities[]

Withering devils are surrounded by an aura of exhaustion which weakens any foes that come too close to them. They can also blast enemies with a mentally draining beam that left them immobilized, or use their apathy-inducing gaze. While the ray completely immobilizes the target, it lasts only briefly, while the gaze's effect lasts indefinitely until force of will overcomes it.[1]

Combat[]

Withering devils fight with quarterstaves known as "Staffs of Weariness". They keep near melee combatants and close the distance on ranged ones to keep them in their aura, although they use their draining ray on the latter first.[1]

Society[]

Withering devils are willing to cooperate with those of similar motivation to themselves, such as certain groups of yuan-ti, but will not hesitate to abandon their allies if a situation turns sour.[1]
