S2 White Plume Mountain is a 16-page adventure module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition released in August 1979. It is for four to ten characters of level 5 to 10.
Official synopsis[]
This module contains background information, referee's notes, player aids, a complete map level, and a cutaway view of the mountain complex. WHITE PLUME MOUNTAIN is from the Special ("S") series; like others in this series, it is meant to stand on its own and is a complete ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS adventure. The recommended number of players is four to ten, with levels ranging from fifth to tenth.

The book was written by Lawrence Schick.
Most AD&D adventure modules before this point had been written by Gary Gygax himself. Gygax put out a call for in-house designers. He applied by submitting an adventure module, which was published as White Plume Mountain.[1]
Release[]
S2 White Plume Mountain was released by TSR in August 1979 for $[missing data] US.
On June 7, 2016, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $4.99.

In The 30 Greatest D&D Adventures of All Time, Dungeon #116 (Nov 2004), White Plume Mountain was rated #9.
As of 2023, White Plume Mountain reached the rank of Platinum seller on DriveThruRPG.
Influence on other works[]
The product received an AD&D 2nd edition sequel, Return to White Plume Mountain (1999).
A D&D 3.5 adaption, White Plume Mountain (3e) (2005), was released as a free web PDF by Wizards of the Coast. It received a free web enhancement, titled Outside the Mountain is Just as dangerous as Inside.
The undead dragon Dragotha appeared in Dungeon Magazine's Age of Worms adventure path.
The module was adapted to D&D 5th edition in Tales from the Yawning Portal (2017).
