White Dwarf was originally a role-playing game magazine published by Games Workshop. From 1977 to 1987 Games Workshop, under leadership of Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, had an exclusive deal with TSR to publish Dungeons & Dragons products in the United Kingdom. Approximately 140 D&D articles were written by various authors during this period. In particular, a column titled "Fiend Factory" began with issue #6, presenting various D&D monsters; many of these were eventually included in the officially published Fiend Folio (1e) (1981).
