The book was written by Andy Collins, Bruce R. Cordell, Duane Maxwell and John D. Rateliff. Art was provided by Dennis Kauth, Todd Lockwood and Wayne Reynolds.
Release[]
Tome and Blood was released by Wizards of the Coast in July 2001 for $19.95 US, or $31.95 Canadian.[1]
On February 3, 2015, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $7.99.

As of 2023, Tome and Blood: A Guidebook to Wizards and Sorcerers reached the rank of Electrum seller on DriveThruRPG.
Influence on other works[]
Several rules elements were reprinted in later D&D 3.5 sourcebooks, with some revisions. The feats Augment Summoning, Greater Spell Focus, Greater Spell penetration, Eschew Materials, and Widen Spell appeared in the Player's Handbook (3.5) (2003). Most of the book's prestige classes were revised for later works: the he arcane trickster and dragon disciple appeared in the Dungeon Master's Guide (3.5) (2003); the acolyte of the skin, alienist, blood magus, elemental savant, fatespinner, mage of the Arcane Order, mindbender, and wayfarer guide appeared in Complete Arcane (2004); the bladesinger and spellsword appeared in Complete Warrior (2003); and the pale master and true necromancer appeared in Libris Mortis (2004).
The golem manual appeared in the Dungeon Master's Guide (3.5) (2003). The spells arcane sight, command undead, dimensional lock, eagle's splendor, false life, fox's cunning, mordenkainen's private sanctum, and owl's wisdom appeared in the Player's Handbook (3.5) (2003).
The arcane trickster subsequently appeared in D&D 5th edition's Player's Handbook (5e) (2014). Bladesinging appeared in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (2015) and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (2020).
