Release[]

The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl was released by TSR on Saturday, July 15, 1978. It debuted in the Origins '78 convention tournament that morning as the second round event (see G1's tournament debut), and the module was released for sale at TSR's convention booth that evening.[3] It was priced at $4.49 US.[1]

It received four printings, monochrome with blue cover, as well as a UK and Australian printing. A fifth printing was included as part of the Silver Anniversary Collector's Edition (1999) boxed set in 1999.[4]

On May 24, 2016, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $4.99.

Reception and influence[]

Critical reception[]

As of 2023, The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl reached the rank of Electrum seller on DriveThruRPG.

Influence on other works[]

The Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl was later combined into G1-3 Against the Giants (1981), and ultimately into GDQ1-7 Queen of the Spiders (1986). Against the Giants also inspired the AD&D 2nd edition work Against the Giants: The Liberation of Geoff (1999).
