This template is for putting a quote at the top of an article. It may also be placed at the top of a section. A shorter way to write {{topquote}} is {{Q}}.

Usage

{{topquote|Light must be snuffed, perfection decayed, order dissolved, and minds fragmented.|Creed of Tharizdun}}
{{Q|Wealth is like the twinkling of an eye—no friend could be more faithless.|Odin, ''Hávamál''}}

Documentation

Two fields separated by vertical bar:

  1. Quote text. Do not add quote marks; these will be added automatically
  2. The person to whom the quote is attributed, followed by the source of the quote.
  3. Optionally, a third parameter can be used to give the source, which will be appended with a comma. There's no particular benefit to this over a comma, but it's still there in case old pages use it.

Add wikilinks or formatting to one or both as appropriate.

A topquote can also be followed immediately by a citation linking to the source.

Not all articles need a top quote. Only add one if it would significantly improve the article. It may be wise to omit the quote on pages which also have messages at the top, like disambiguation links. Select quotes carefully and wisely, They should generally be relevant to D&D, such as a quote from a D&D sourcebook or novel, or from one of the works which inspired D&D.

Examples

"Light must be snuffed, perfection decayed, order dissolved, and minds fragmented."
— Creed of Tharizdun
"Wealth is like the twinkling of an eye—no friend could be more faithless."
