A shadowblade is a warrior who pairs martial skill with the manipulation of shadow.

Abilities[]

Following an exposure to shadowy energies, a shadowblade gains the ability to manipulate shadow to their advantage, enhancing their weapon attacks and concealing themselves in darkness.

Notable shadowblades[]

For a full list of shadowblades, see Category:Shadowblades.

Publication history[]

D&D 3rd edition[]

The shadowblade was introduced as a prestige class in Tome of Magic (3e) (2006).

D&D 4th edition[]

The shadowblade returned for Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition as a paragon path for assassins, in Dragon #379 (Sep 2009).

The drow shadowblade, appearing in Monster Manual 3 (4e) (2010), shares a theme with the shadowblade paragon path but is otherwise different.

D&D 5th edition[]

The shadowblade did not return for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. However, the drow shadowblade returned in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes (2018), with a new background reminiscent of the Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 shadowblade.
