A rocktender is a gnome cleric that reveres earth and stone, venerating the very rock itself, and nurtures a healthy relationship with the deep rock of the planet.
Description[]
Rocktenders are contemplative and hermetic. Retreating to be alone with the rock, a rocktender draws power and knowledge from the earth, and creates great works of art with a hammer and chisel. Rather than fanatic protectors of the earth, rocktenders tend to be more shepherds and caretakers, ensuring that the living stone continues to provide for the people who live in and upon it.
A typical rocktender has great wisdom, and knowledge of masonry or mining. They wield hammers and clubs with stone heads, slings with stone bullets, and spears or arrows with flint or obsidian tips. However, they have a taboo against using metal (making them resort to wooden shields and leather or padded armor as well).
Abilities[]
Rocktenders have an infallible ability to detect grades or slopes, notice unsafe construction, and discern depth and direction. Only in extreme cases is this ability ever in doubt. They may also receive premonitions of seismic events such as rockfalls, earthquakes, and eruptions, up to 12 hours before they occur (for major events such as quakes) or up to 6 hours before they occur (for lesser events such as rockslides and building collapses).
If they summon an earth elemental or similar creature of elemental earth, a rocktender gets the largest possible type, and the elemental is exceptionally loyal to the rocktender.
A rocktender's spells and special abilities may only be used when they are in direct contact with unhewn rock.
