A magical force pushes on the target. The force is 1 foot-pound per level, allowing it to move small objects 1' in any direction, topple a precarious object, or even cause a creature up to 50 lbs/level to lose balance (if the creature fails its saving throw, it cnanot attack). When directed against an object held by a creature, the spell causes a -1/level penalty on attacks with that object (or bestowing a +1/level saving throw bonus on targets of that object's effects, if it allows a save).
