Plant is a creature type in Dungeons & Dragons.

Overview

Plants are vegetable or fungal creatures.[1]

Examples of the plant type include treants, shambling mounds, and myconids.[2][1]

Publication history

Basic D&D

Plants (and fungi) were considered part of the lowlife type in the AC9 Creature Catalogue (1986) and the Rules Cyclopedia (1991).

AD&D 2nd edition

While the Monstrous Manual (1993) did not have creature types, many plant creatures were collected together under the entries for "Plant, Dangerous" and "Plant, Intelligent".

D&D 3rd edition

The plant type was introduced in the Monster Manual (3.0) (2000) and retained for the Monster Manual (3.5) (2003).

D&D 4th edition

The plant type became a keyword in the Monster Manual (4e) (2008). Creatures of any type or origin could be plants.

D&D 5th edition

The plant type returned in the Monster Manual (5e) (2014).
