Critical reception[]
As of 2023, Planescape Campaign Setting reached the rank of Adamantine seller on DriveThruRPG, the highest rating.
In 2024, D&D blog Grognardia described the setting as "one of the greats". However, its idiosyncrasies were controversial with players at the time, such as the planar "cant" and the surreal depiction of the planes, which diverged from the more traditional descriptions in works like Manual of the Planes (1e) (1987). Contemporary players also felt that it drew influence from White Wolf's more thematically strong roleplaying games, which was seen by some as a negative.[2]
