Planar Handbook was written by Bruce R. Cordell and Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel. Art was provided by Dana Andrews, Dee Barnett Matt Cavotta, Brent Chumley, Emily Fiegenschuh, Todd Gamble, David Hudnut, Doug Kovacs, David G. Martin, Dennis Crabapple McClain, and Dawn Murin.

Planar Handbook was released by Wizards of the Coast in July 2004 for $29.95 US, or $44.95 Canadian.[1]
On September 30, 2014, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $14.99.
