This spell creates a quasi-real shadow mount. The mount carries the caster, or anyone whom the caster creates the mount for, and will not carry other creatures. The phantom steed has a black head and body, milky eyes, gray mane and tail, and smoke-colored, insubstantial, soundless hooves. It does not participate in combat, but can be attacked (AC 2, 7 hp + 1 hp/caster level), and if it loses its hit points, it is destroyed. The mount is created with what seems to be a saddle, and bit and bridle. It can bear the weight of the creature it was created for, plus 10 lbs per caster level. It moves at a rate of 4, +4 per caster level (maximum of 48).
The mount gains additional powers as the caster gains experience.
- 8th Level: The mount can pass over sandy, muddy, or swampy ground without difficulty
- 10th Level: The mount can walk on water as if it were firm, dry ground.
- 12th Level: The mount can walk on air as if it were firm, dry ground. The mount cannot move up or down with this speed, but can cross chasms.
- 14th Level: The mount can sprout shadowy wings and fly at a rate of 48 when commanded to.
