For the arachnid body part, see Pedipalp.

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the pedipalp is a type of monster, based on several orders of arachnids.

Publication history[]

The giant pedipalp (uropygi), the huge pedipalp (amblypygi), and the large pedipalp (schizomida) first appeared in the adventure module Queen of the Demonweb Pits (1980).[1] The giant pedipalp, the huge pedipalp, and the large pedipalp appeared in the original first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2]

The huge pedipalp (amblypygus) and the large pedipalp (schizomida) appeared in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons for the Forgotten Realms setting in The Drow of the Underdark (1991).[3]

Description[]

A pedipalp is a creature that resembles a cross between a spider and a scorpion, and is commonly called a whip scorpion. A pedipalp may be found in a variety of different colorings, with browns and tans being the most common. The large pedipalp has two grasping arms and mandibles for biting. The huge pedipalp has a pair of whip-like appendages in the place of one pair of legs, while another set of legs has spiny pincers on the ends. The giant pedipalp has a whip-like tail and forelegs that end in large pincers, and can discharge a noxious vapor.
