In the Great Wheel cosmology, the Outer Planes are the planes embodying moral and ethical alignments, as well as the homes of celestials, fiends, and many gods.

The 17 Outer Planes are arranged in a "Great Ring", with 16 of the planes centered around the 17th, the Outlands, which represents neutrality. The other Outer Planes are:

  • Mechanus, representing lawful neutrality
  • Arcadia, representing the overlap between lawful neutrality and lawful good
  • Mount Celestia, representing lawful good
  • Bytopia, representing the overlap between lawful good and neutral good
  • Elysium, representing neutral good
  • The Beastlands, representing the overlap between neutral good and chaotic good
  • Arborea, representing chaotic good
  • Ysgard, representing the overlap between chaotic good and chaotic neutrality
  • Limbo, representing chaotic neutrality
  • Pandemonium, representing the overlap between chaotic neutrality and chaotic evil
  • The Abyss, representing chaotic evil
  • Carceri, representing the overlap between chaotic evil and neutral evil
  • Hades, representing neutral evil
  • Gehenna, representing the overlap between neutral evil and lawful evil
  • The Nine Hells, representing lawful evil
  • Acheron, representing the overlap between lawful evil and lawful neutrality

The Outer Planes can also be categorized into groupings:
