AD&D[edit | edit source]

Nystul's Magic Aura[edit | edit source]

Debuted in the Player's Handbook as a magic-user spell.

Level: 1 School: Illusion/Phantasm
Components: V, S, M (a square of silk passed over the object)
Range: Touch Casting Time: 1 round
Duration: 1 day/level Saving Throw: Special
Target: One item of up to 50 gp/level weight

The target item is given a magical aura, detectable with magic. The aura detects ambiguously, unable to be read as anything more than the presence of a magical aura. Actually holding the item and using magic to percieve the aura allows the detective to make a saving throw, with success noting that that the aura is false.

AD&D 2e[edit | edit source]
