A musket is an advanced ranged weapon. It somewhat resembles a light crossbow, but shoots bullets propelled by a flamable substance known as gunpowder rather than by a bow mechanism.[1][2]

The musket's primary advantage is its lethality. At close range, and in the hands of a trained soldier, a musket can be as lethal as a heavy crossbow and more deadly. A smaller version of the weapon, the pistol, is slightly less deadly but can be carried more easily and fired with only one hand.

Drawbacks[]

The musket is relatively inaccurate over distances greater than around forty feet.

It also requires a supply of flammable gunpowder to function. In the world of Oerth, this substance fails to function, rendering most firearms inoperable.
