Mors Mysterium Nominium, or The Death of the Mysterious Names, is a book detailing lore about demons. It is one of the most widely trusted books on demon summoning, to the extent that nearly every other book on demon summoning draws on this ancient text.
Appearance[]
Mors Mysterium Nominium is a massive leatherbound book, over three feet tall. It is ancient, and has a musty stench.[1]
The book is narrow, and sturdily bound. Its name is engraved in large lettering.[2]
Content[]
Mors Mysterium Nominium is said to hold the names of all tanar'ri demons in existence, as well as the rituals needed to summon them. The book is said to magically update itself whenever a new tanar'ri is created or destroyed.[1]
At the back of the book are magically obscured pages whose contents are hidden from normal sight. They are suspected to contain the secret names of Abyssal lords dating back to the first tanar'ri uprising.[1]
The book makes the particular claim that the obyrith known as Pale Night is the mother of several prominent tanar'ri lords, including the demon prince Graz'zt, Baron Lupercio, and Vukaric, Consort of Chains.[3]
It details what little is understood on the nature of Lady Lynkhab, Abyssal patron of depression and desire.[4]
History[]
The tiefling wizard Taraere Illsmiser summoned a group of adventurers for an expedition to the vault of the Fortress of the Fallen Stair, an Abyssal library guarded by the arcanaloth Vilinathraxes, hoping to find the original copy of Mors Mysterium Nominium.[2]
