Publication history[]

AD&D 1st edition[]

The jackalwere first appeared for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition in the Monster Manual (1e) (1977).

AD&D 2nd edition[]

The jackalwere returned in the Monstrous Compendium Volume One (1989), and was also included in the Monstrous Manual (1993).

D&D 3rd edition[]

The jackalwere appeared in the Fiend Folio (3e) (2003) for Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition. In 3rd edition, the jackalwere was a magical beast with the shapechanger subtype.

D&D 4th edition[]

The jackalwere returned for Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition in Monster Manual 3 (4e) (2010), which described the jackalwere bravo, jackalwere deceiver, and jackalwere harrier. The jackalwere was assigned the natural humanoid type with the shapechanger keyword.

The jackalwere deceiver also appeared in Halls of Undermountain (2012).

D&D 5th edition[]

The jackalwere appeared in the Monster Manual (5e) (2014) for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition, where it was a humanoid with the shapechanger tag.
