Jackal

Jackals are canines that dwell in sparse, dry lands, subsisting on small birds and rodents as well as carrion and occasional pieces of fruit. Regarded as timid scavengers, with quarrelous relationships, they are emblematic of cowardice and untrustworthiness.

Combat

Jackals dart in and strike their prey. Usually, this is most effective on small prey that they can capture in a single bite -- jackals don't cooperate well when taking down larger prey.

Like wolves, jackals have a unique and very unsettling cry, called a pheal. This certain serves to startle and intimidate most herbivores, and can attract the attention of larger carnivores such as tigers or lions that the jackal cooperates with to hunt.
