Ingeborg is the daughter of King Yngvi of Uppsala.
Ingeborg was betrothed to Hjalmar the Fearless. Angantyr, slighted by King Yngvi's choice of suitor, challenged Hjalmar to a duel. Both Angantyr and Hjalmar died in the duel.[1]
Creative origins[]
In the original 13th century Icelandic saga Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks (The Saga of Hervör and Heidrek), it is Angantyr's brother Hjörvard who challenges Hjalmar to a duel.
The king does not reject Hjörvard, but allows his daughter Ingibjörg the choice of the two suitors. She declines Hjörvard because she does not know him except through tales of his family, which are all negative. When Hjalmar dies in the duel, Ingibjörg takes her own life.[2]
