The spell appears in The Strategic Review 1-4, as part of the Illusionist class. A fear effect can also be generated from a Wand of Fear, a magic item contained in Monsters & Treasure. Dragon Magazine #12 preserved this spell on the Illusionist list.

Creates a cone-shaped area, 6" outwards, to a base 3" wide. It will affect 4d10 1st-level types, 3d10 2nd-level types, 2d10 3rd-level types, 1d10 4th level types, 1d6 5th level types, or 1d4 6th level types. Those who fail their saves become panicked and flee.

The spell appears here, too, for the magic-user, though it is higher level and slightly more potent.

Creates a cone-shaped area, 6" outwards, to a base 3" wide. Those who fail their saves become panicked and flee, with a 50% chance to drop whatever they are holding when struck with the spell.
