Farbauti is a male giant whose son is Loki of the Norse pantheon.[1] Loki's mother is the giant Laufey.
Publication history[]
AD&D 1st edition[]
Farbauti is mentioned in the article For Better or Norse: II, Dragon #110 (Jun 1986), p.27, as a giant whose son is Loki.
AD&D 2nd edition[]
"Farbauti" is given in Against the Giants: The Liberation of Geoff (1999), p.91, as a male name for giants. It is perhaps the only canon D&D source which asserts that Farbauti is a male name. This concurs with the original Norse myth.
D&D 3rd edition[]
Farbauti is named in Deities and Demigods (3e) (2002), p.183.
Creative origins[]
In Norse mythology, Farbauti is named in the Prose Edda as a giant whose son is Loki. Loki's mother is stated to be named Laufey or Nal; from this we can conclude that Farbauti is his father. No other information is known about Farbauti.
