Eyfura is the daughter of Svafrlami. She is great-granddaughter of Odin of the Norse pantheon.[1]
History[]
Eyfura's father Svafrlami was defeated in battle by the berserker Arngrim. Arngrim carried her off as his wife. They had twelve brave warrior sons, the eldest named Angantyr.
Creative origins[]
Eyfura appears in Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks (The Saga of Hervör and Heidrek), a 13th century Icelandic saga. It was translated into English in 1960 by Christopher Tolkien, son of J.R.R Tolkien.[2]
In one version of the saga, Eyfura is the daughter of King Svafrlami and Fríd, daughter of the giant Thjazi. She is said to be the most beautiful and wise woman in the land. The berserker Arngrím kills Svafrlami in combat and carries Eyfura off to be his wife.
In another version, she is instead the daughter of King Sigrlami, who gives her hand in marriage to Arngrím, a viking who became captain in Sigrlami's army.
