Causes an object or creature to exptand in size.

AD&D[]

Debuted in the Player's Handbook as a magic-user spell.

Level: 1 School: Alteration
Components: V, S, M (a pinch of powdered iron)
Range: 1/2"/level Casting Time: 1 segment
Duration: 1 turn/level Saving Throw: Negates
Target: One creature or object

Increases the size and weight of the target creature by 20% per level (maximum of 200%) or the target object by 10% per level (maximum 100%). Unwilling victims are allowed a save. The maximum volume that can be affected is 10 cubic feet of living material, or 5 cubic feet of non-living material. Magical properties are not enlarged by the spell (a giant potion still only has its effects on one creature, for instance), but weight, mass, and strength are -- a table is made more massive, a falling rock could do more damage, chains would be more massive, doors thicker, a thin line turned into a sturdy rope, and so on. Similarly, a 12' tall person would have the power of an ogre, someone 18' tall would have the power of a giant.

DM's Advice: Enlargement destroys clothing and armor in the the growth, and thus it's impossible to squeeze someone to death in their own equipment. Material components don't change size (so a pinch of powdered iron does not become a mountain of powdered iron). A true distinction must be made between touching the creature and touching what the creature is wearing -- a shirt or suit of mail might be enlarged instead of the creature if that is touched.

Reverse[]

The reverse dispels an enlarge effect, or shrinks creatures and objects by the same amount that enlarge grows them.
