Development and release[]

Development[]

Erik Mona served as Editor-in-Chief.

The magazine's editorial published final goodbyes from Erik Mona, managing editor Jason Bulmahn, associate editor Mike McArtor, and associate editor F. Wesley Schneider. The Scale Mail column also included a reader's letter from Larry Smith, who had served as the magazine's art director from 1990 to 2000.

The issue's cover art was provided by veteran artist Larry Elmore, and depicted a green dragon in homage to the cover of Dragon #1 (Jun 1976).

Release[]

Dragon #359 was released by Paizo Publishing in September 2007 for $10.99 US or $12.99 Canadian. The issue price was $3.00 higher than the previous year's issues, but was justified by a higher pagecount.

The issue's editorial described Wizards of the Coast's intention to release online versions of both Dragon and Dungeon magazines as part of what was then known as their "Digital Initiative". The first such issue was Dragon #360 (Oct 2007). The digital version of Dragon would continue until Dragon #430 (Dec 2013).

Paizo took this opportunity to advertise Pathfinder, a new monthly series of D&D 3.5 adventure modules following in the tradition of Dungeon magazine adventure paths. Pathfinder would later be developed into its own tabletop roleplaying game, which became a significant competitor to Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition.

Subscribers with outstanding issues were offered to transfer their remaining subscription duration to Paizo's new D&D 3.5 adventure module series Pathfinder. Alternatively, they could exchange their remaining months for Dragon and Dungeon back issues, Paizo.com store effort, or a refund.[1]
