Dispels evil magic
Original D&D[]
Dispel Evil[]
Debuted in Men & Magic, for the cleric. Anti-clerics can use the reversed form.
- Spell Level 5
- Duration 1 turn
- Range 12"
If this spell succeeds, a particular evil sending or spell within a 3" radius will cease to function for the duration. The success of this spell is a ratio over the caster over the original spellcaster (for instance, a 5th-level cleric dispelling the spell of a 10th-level anti-cleric has a 50% chance of success).
Reversed Form[]
The spell is not described, but it presumably ends the effect of a good sending or spell.
AD&D[]
Dispel Evil[]

AD&D 2e[]
Dispel Evil[]
| Spell Level: 5 | Rarity: Common (Clerics) |
| Spheres (Priest): Guardian, Summoning (School: Abjuration) | |
| Components: V, S, M (a holy symbol and holy water) | |
| Range: Touch | Casting Time: 8 |
| Duration: 1 rd/level | Saving Throw: Negates |
| Target: Creature touched | |
Dismisses evil extraplanar creatures, protects the caster from such creatures, or removes evil magical effects. The spell can affect a summoned creature of evil alignment, an evil creature from another plane, or a creature summoned by an evil caster. Any such creature that attacks the caster while the duration is active takes a -7 penalty on attack rolls. To return such a creature to their plane of origin, the caster must touch the subject (via a melee attack). When touched, such creatures return to their home plane on a failed saving throw vs. spell. This use expends the spell, ending it.
Magical enchantments created by an evil caster (such as a charm spell cast by an evil wizard) that can normally be dispelled by dispel magic can also be dispelled via dispel evil. Any such spells on the target creature are automatically removed. The spell also removes all forms of magical domination or posession, regardless of their source. This use also expends the spell, ending it.
