Calliope is a deity in the Greek pantheon. One of nine Muses, she is the patron of heroic or epic poetry.[1]

Calliope is a daughter of Mnemosyne and Zeus, chief of the Greek pantheon. She and her eight sisters are the nine Muses: Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomnene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania.[2]

Calliope is the mother of Orpheus.[3][4]

Calliope appears in Greek mythology.

Reception and influence[]

The name Calliope lends itself to a dark naga in Empires of the Shining Sea (1998), p.151 and Serpent Kingdoms (2004), p.133; a cheetah in LC2 Inside Ravens Bluff, The Living City (1990), p.3.
