Brazen devils are bodyguards of the Nine Hells, so-called for the hellforged brass armor in which they are irremovably encased.[1]

Personality[]

Brazen devils are extremely intimidating, but unlike pit fiends, lack ambition and desire only to serve their master.[1]

Abilities[]

Brazen devils are powerful and fast, if somewhat uncoordinated in the air, and capable of teleportation. Their most notable trait is the hellfire they emit and blast their enemies with. Any who drew near would be burned by it, and non-devils could not teleport away while within its cloying grasp. They could launch it at their foes in the form of gout,[1] and those specially trained as guards, when injured, disgorged it, temporarily disabling the enemy's resistances.[2]

Combat[]

With halberds in hand, brazen devils are vicious in attack and stalwart in defense. They swarm over any who dare trespass into their territory, but spread out to cover a wider area in their hellfire. They furiously assault their foes, pushing them around and teleporting after them, often into other brazen devils who take advantage of the opportunity to knock the opponent prone. Only if enemies attempt to regroup or retreat do they teleport after them, ready for assault and knocking aside anything that happens to stand in their target destination.[1]

Society[]

The domain of the brazen devils is Nessus, specifically in Asmodeus's fortress of Malsheem. It is with his palace's protector's and his own elite defenders, the 1,001 brazen devil legion known as the Malsheem Guard, that Asmodeus places the closest thing he has to trust. They are the most ferocious of devils, defending the King of Hell with unmatched, suicidal loyalty, and are quickly replaced in the event that one dies.[3][1]

Asmodeus generally appoints brazen devils to the most sensitive or important tasks. His daughter Glasya also has brazen devils in her own elite palace guard in Malbolge, as commanded by her high marshal Tartach. It is they who whisk away her playthings when she is done with them, to face imprisonment or execution in deadly demesne.[4] It is also possible to find brazen devils in the retinues of pit fiends, or other powerful entities such as ancient green dragons.[1]

Brazen devils speak Supernal.[1]

Ecology[]

Brazen devils are made from the most worthy and devoted of war devils, bone devils, and barbed devils in a lengthy, torturous ritual where they are cut apart and fitted into their infamous armor. For as long as they exist it will stay on them, and upon their death it is destroyed.[1]
