Axe of the Dwarvish Lords is a 192-page adventure module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition released in April 1999. It centers around the artifact known as the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords, and is intended for five to seven characters of levels 13 to 15.

Official synopsis[]

The rediscovery of an artifact forged at the dawn of time signals an age of strife and opportunity!

The dwarven clans are in chaos, and a powerful host of goblins stands poised to sweep over the land in a wave of death and terror. Only the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords—one of the most powerful weapons ever created by the dwarven race—holds the key to ultimate victory against the massing humanoids. Can the PCs brave the labyrinth of an abandoned dwarven stronghold to find the Axe?

It's up to your characters to write a new chapter in the saga of the Axe.

This book contains the full story of the Axe's creation, loss, and reappearance.

For five to seven characters of levels 13-15.

The player characters must retrieve the artifact the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords from an evil wizard who had stolen the powerful weapon, and intends to use it to use it to marshal a massive goblin army against a dwarven community, while avoiding an agent of the derro god Diirinka.

The book was written by Skip Williams. Cover art was provided by Tony Szczudlo, and interior art by Arnie Swekel.

The titular Axe of the Dwarvish Lords originally appeared in Eldritch Wizardry (1976).

Release[]

Axe of the Dwarvish Lords was released by Wizards of the Coast in April 1999 for $26.95 US, or $39.95 Canadian.

On January 3, 2017, it was re-released in digital format. It is currently available on DriveThruRPG and Dungeon Masters Guild for $9.99.

Reception and influence[]

Critical reception[]

A positive review of the module was given by notable game designer S. John Ross for delivering an exciting adventure despite "its tremendous flaws of writing and design."[1]

As of 2023, Axe of the Dwarvish Lords reached the rank of Electrum seller on DriveThruRPG.
